ATLAS

I’ve been working on composing an Atlas, or a type of navigation chart for a series of paintings. Working to conceive of a cohesive set of paintings with a general motion to it like a book of poems. Posting here a draft of movement 1. Process will likely be very slow. The navigation chart holds in place the photos I’ve taken that are the primary reference source material, and attaches them to an intellectual framework in which the paintings operate. Making the paintings themselves will be a different arena of transferring the images through the body and into the materials and brush strokes – trusting that a communication of feeling and presence that exists beyond our ability to speak or to know will occur at some point in time. Working to orient the scope of the vision and the confines of the art. Brush strokes are like the tip of a wing in flight.
